July 2, Indianapolis, IN
Today we left on the seemingly endless plane ride from Indianapolis to Washington D.C. and then to Dakar, Senegal for refueling and then on to Johannesburg, South Africa for an overnight stay before leaving for Malawi on July 4. Luckily all of the flights were without incident. However we did get to hear a word get spoken into existence. A man had maybe taken advantage of the abundance of drinks available on the plane and started speaking to Suzi and said that he knew that Dick was smart because he had the “fuzzicles” and he pointed to Dick’s beard as he said this. We all thought it was rather funny and have had a number of laughs since because of it. We also had a funny moment in Dakar as we were refueling when Molly noticed what looked like smoke coming from the vents on one side of the plane. She calmly pointed and asked me “should we be worried about that?” I told her that they were just getting some humidity into the plane and that the worst that would happen is we would need our Scooby Doo fog cutter. For our overnight stay in Johannesburg, we had the privilege of staying with a Christian family at their house. We had a wonderful dinner and breakfast and the best tea in South Africa. The Burke’s were the most wonderful and gracious hosts anyone could ever ask for, and we had a great time fellowshipping with them and getting to know their family. I had told Molly that I hoped that we could be as nice to the people that we know well as they were to us. After a wonderful and restful night’s stay at the Burke’s we set off for the airport to begin our journey to Malawi.
